The margined wide tile constructed as an example here was made from a selection from a fractal Generated with Kai's Power Tools used within PaintShop. The original fractal is in the Bronze Collection. All of the cutting, pasting, and image manipulation was done within Paint Shop

Here is the original piece which was cut from the fractal. It was pasted to a new image larger than itself and then rotated to give it an orientation more suitable for the margin. We will show you the series of steps we used to turn it into a wide tile. Needless to say, there are many other approaches. |
| Use the dropper tool to pick up a color in the fractal. | |
![]() |
Switch to the crayon which gives a stippled effect. Adjust the size to something comfortable. |
![]() |
Starting with a light selection, we used the crayon tool to begin to fill in the background of the image. |
![]() |
Choose the clone brush. Keep its size and opacity low. Pick up a section of the fractal by SHIFT clicking on it. |
![]() |
Begin to swirl the brush in a circular fashion. Stop and start again often. If you just keep going you get an ever widening section of the clone rather than a repeating pattern. |
![]() |
With judicious use of the cloning brush you can expand the image considerably. |
![]() |
We now need to lighten the right side of the image somewhat. Click on a dark section of the image with the clone tool, then double click on the foreground color tool to get the color picker. |
|
Slide the triangle of the color picker upwards on the shading bar to get a lighter color. |

Enlarge the canvas on which the image resides. |
![]() ![]() |
Click on the airbrush tool and set its properties to a low size, flowrate, and opacity. Lighten the right side of the image particularly . |
| Enlarge the image canvas once more. |
| Use the select tool to choose an area smaller than the area that you have colored in. | |
|
|
| Apply Kai's Seemless Tiler extension to the selected area. Notice that because the image is surrounded by white, it blanches the edges nicely. | |

Image after seamless tiler is applied. Use CTRL-C to copy the image to the clipboard. |
![]() |
Use CTRL-V to paste the tile into a new image. Take note of the size of the image in the status bar at the bottom of Paint Shop |
![]() |
Click on the File menu and choose 'New' to create a new blank image. |
![]() |
Set the parameters of the new image. Choose 24 bit color. Make the width 1200 and the height exactly equal to the height of your tile. |
![]() |
Once the new blank image is made, use CTRL-C to copy your tile onto the clipboard (if it is not already there). You cannot use CTRL-V to paste, though or you will get a new image. Choose 'PASTE' in the edit menu and choose 'As New Selection from its popup. |
![]() |
You can move the tile around and paste it into the left hand side of the new wide image. Only part of the wide image is shown here. Save this image. |
![]() |
Use the dropper tool to choose a compatible color for the image. Choose the line tool and set its width. |
![]() |
Separate the image from the rest of the tile with a line. |
![]() |
If you want, you can add a fancy series of lines to your tile. Once you finish, save the tile. |
| Use the airbrush and smearing brush to feather an edge. | |
![]() |
Rather than bordering the tile with lines, you can feather the edge with the airbrush. |
